Last week's privacy news was mixed. Twitter made public their support for the Do Not Track header ahead of their announcement of their new “Tailored Suggestions” functionality.  Also, as part of a long string of articles leading up to the approaching May 26th ePrivacy Directive deadline, Econsultancy ran a great article (penned by Colin) reminding readers that the so-called “Cookie Law” doesn’t just apply to cookies, but also to other tracking elements. Finally, regarding the deadline, there were many articles that either claimed the ICO would do nothing to enforce the Directive, or claimed that it would go over the top with fines. Cookies: Majority of government sites to miss deadline – BBC –Ahead of a nationwide deadline over regulating the use of cookies, the BBC has learned that the "majority" of the UK government's own websites will fail to comply in time. ICO to issue warning to government departments 'within days' over EU cookie law – PC Advisor – David Smith, deputy commissioner at the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), has said that government departments will feature on a list of the top websites due to receive a letter of warning from the regulator over non-compliance with new EU cookie laws 'within days'.
