The Ponemon Institute conducted an independent study, sponsored by Evidon, to determine the economic impact of mixed content warnings. Specifically, to test consumer reactions to these warnings when browsing secure eCommerce sites. The numbers they came out with were quite shocking:

  • US web users were exposed to various browser security warnings across Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox
  • 57% of them ended the purchase process due to a Mixed Content Warning
  • The top 100 US retailers lost $309 million/year in eCommerce transactions as a result of just this one security issue
